Dia 9 - a consagração

A derradeira etapa desta TransPortugal ligou as Termas de Monchique a Sagres, tipicamente uma etapa mais curta, este ano com 99km, passando a estar no mesmo tom das 8 anterirores, longa...

Inicio na serra, a meio caminho encontrariamos o oceano, para mim o ponto alto de todo o evento, mas também veio com contrapartida... Uns belos metros a pé na praia do Amado. É bonito sim senhor, mas caminhar na areia com uma bicicleta e sapatos de ciclismo não é o que eu chame de divertido... Lá se fez, por sorte tive a companhia do A e lá fomos falando.

A secção após a praia do Amado leva-nos a mais 2 praias com as consequentes descidas e subidas bem inclinadas. Bonito e duro. Com A já bem cansado estavamos já a razar a hora do fecho do controlo, mas como é a última etapa e a organização quer que seja uma festa, o tempo foi alargado alguns minutos de modo a que conseguissemos chegar ainda dentro de controlo.

Ao ver a praia e a meta uma grande ovação para o A, mais uma etapa completada e ele bem lutou por ela. O ritual banho no mar e fotos da praxe terminaram a parte ciclistica, agora só faltava embalar as nossas montadas e o jantar de entrega dos prémios.

The last stage to Sagres was typically a shorter one, but this year it was prolonged a little further, having 99km.

Starting on the hills, it would take us to the ocean at its halfway point, it would also mean that we would have to walk our way through the Amado beach, not my idea of fun, but me and A slowly chatted our way through it.

After crossing this beach we still visited 2 more, with the correspondent steep down and uphills. A was trying his best but we wouldn't be able to arrive on time to the finish line. Luckily the decision was made to only close the finish line after we both got there. When A was getting close a loud cheer was clear and everyone was celebrating at the beach the finish of the race.

Most of the competitors and some of the staff had the traditional dive in to the ocean and pictures the of racers and staff were taken. All we had left was the packing of the bikes and the awards ceremony.
