Gorrick Autumn Classic 1 - Swinley Forest

Já no ano passado pensei em particpar numa destas provas. Bem perto de Londres, fácil acesso de comboio, boa reputação.

Finalmente dei o passo e em boa hora o fiz. A categoria que escolhi (Master Male) era das que começava mais cedo, pelo que possibilitou retornar a casa a horas decentes, tendo em conta que 2ªfeira é dia de trabalho. Mas por outro lado, tive mais uma vez de acordar com as galinhas e sair com as luzinhas a piscar.

Tive pontaria e apanhei outro participante na mesma carruagem que eu. A viagem passou num instante, com a conversa que nos foi entretendo naquela curta 1/2 hora.

O meu registo já tinha sido feito online e ele fê-lo na altura e acabamos por ir juntos fazer o reconhecimento. Esperava-nos um interessante percurso com curtas mas inclinadas subidas no primeiro terço e menos dificuldades no restante, mas sempre com muitos singles espalhados pelo circuito. Muito bom.

Quanto à corrida em si, fomos a terceira vaga a sair (super master e super veteran antes de nós) O M. ia na mesma categoria e chegou-se mais à frente no arranque e depressa desapareceu da minha vista. Eu lá me fui mexendo e passando alguns concorrentes mais lentos das outras categorias.

Como de costume num XC, foi sempre no red line... Sempre ofegante e a dar o que podia. Como o percurso era divertido as voltas passaram num instante.

Ficou a vontade de voltar outra vez, muito provavelmente já no dia 14 de Novembro, mas desta vez vou pros Super Master, só pra dar mais uma voltinha.

I had already thought of entering one of their events last year. They're close to London, train access is easy and they have a good reputation.

So I finally made a move and am very glad I did. I chose the Master Male cat that would be one the earlier starts, being able to return home at a decent time, but having to go out before sunrise.

When I entered the train there was another MTBer there, also going for the race. The 30 minute trip went very quickly with all the chatting.

I had already registered online but he did it when we arrived, so we did a lap of the circuit together. The circuit was quite good, with a couple of steep climbs at the first third of the lap and a easier remainder of the loop. There was plenty of singletrack. So we were in for a lot of fun.

As for the race itself, we were the third wave of starters (super master e super veteran before us).  M. was in the same cat but he was further up the field and quickly disappeared. I was going at my pace and started passing some slower competitors, mainly for the other cats.

As usual on a XC event, I was always on the red... Breathless and giving it all I had. As the ride was fun, the 3 laps finished very quickly.

 

I finished with the need to come back, probably already on the 14th of November, this time on the Super Masters, for the extra lap.
