A resposta ás minhas preces???

Sheldon's nuts.

Será esta a resposta para as minhas preces??

Não percam os próximos episódios.

I went to some shops to try and solve my problem. Of the 4 I went to, only one gave any useful tip, Sheldon's nuts.

Finally manages a bit of time today to put the mudguards on, cause the rainy days are closing in.

But in the whole of the afternoon, I only managed to finish half the job....

How am I going to fix this:

Here:

It does fit (I already took care of that), but how do I get the brake bolt/nut out here so that it reaches the mudguard?? I have even pull the brake apart hoping for an insight, but bright ideas came of it.

Resourceful ideas needed...

Cycle Show is coming, it's in the beginning of next month and pretty close to my home, this time I'm going to try and go 2 days. Can anyone get me a "trade" pass?? ;)

Montane Kielder 100

O ambiente é 5 estrelas, o percurso duro e divertido. A prova vale o elevado preço.

When you do something, do it properly.

On saturday, 4th September, I went there. I had tried to go in  2009, but had left it too late and there were no spaces. This year I was ready and booked well in advance.

It took place in Northern England, very near to Scotland, where we actually would go for a short bit of the route. So we went to Newcastle by train and slept there, 1h30 away from Kielder.

Yes, 1h30... I left the lodging side of the race for too late and there was nothing near except the camping, opted to stay near the train station, I could at least go to bed early. That was of extreme importance due to the start being at 6h30...

As said whatever you do, do it properly, even if it is being late. The alarm was set for 4h15, but who said that it would wake me up??? I actually woke at 5h30. PANIC, loads of swearing and out the door at light speed. The trip was done at unreasonable speeds but I managed not to arrive too late. Sign in and after that getting the bike back together. Thankfully d. gave a precious hand and I left only 50 minutes behind everyone. Wasn't really sure they would allow me to still go into the route, but I headed off.

As there was no marking on the first 2 miles (the bunch had followed a lead out car) I had to get help from the only spectator still around and a couple of organization members. I found that the route would repeat itself in a couple of places and when I got there they had already been changed. Luckily the organization was very helpful and with their good instructions a following the tracks I was managing reasonably.

My race was now to find the route and get to the checkpoints within the time limits.

Those first 2 miles were, as you would imagine, on full throttle, but as there was no one around to see or catch up, I quickly went down to a more reasonable pace. Even so I managed to make the first 20km in 1h, with climbs... At that time I finally got to the "tail end Charlies" that were waiting for me. I did not manage to thank them for that. All they had from was dust, in such a haste was I... Luckily (or not) the next "lantern rouge" was just 500m ahead.

Uff. Now I could really ease off and get a pace reasonable for my 140km left. I started overtaking procedures. When I got to the first feed station, where I had planed to refill my camelbak with water, there were only breadcrumbs... And no water. Luckily I had enough to last me to the next water stop.

With the English limitations on trails riding and racing the route was what I would call butterfly style, with several wings. I wouldn't get the big ride feel I was expecting (like the SRP 160), but made the organization's job easier and we could enjoy several of the man made singletrack around Kielder  and at 7Stanes. Those singletracks were the highlights of my day, not too technical but demanding you to stay fully focused to do them fast. And they did ask for fast riding.... The landscape was good, but most of the day we were in woods so could not see much more that trees.

So I got back to the route where I had previously felt lost in the "pack". I was going to be overtaking people for the rest of the race.

About on the half-way point there was a feed station on which you could actually have a bag with your things awaiting you. But everyone had a different bag. And instead of the portuguese way of you having to look for your own bag, there were people taking the number of the participants and others picking them for the participants. I, as usual had all i needed with me. The 60 miles feed station was the one I was really eager for. It had the best options, tomatoes or lentil soup, 4 types of rolls, tea or coffee, Haribo, cakes and bananas (that was actually the first stop where I could get one, on the previous ones I only had seen their peels). My options were lentil soup + ham roll + banana, it was a real treat.

That feed station was in Newcastleton and was the furthest we got to Kielder. the return to Kielder took longer than I had expected, instead of 160km we did 170. Luckily for me the last 15minutes were all singletrack, and downhill. Instead of thinking how tired i was, I was focusing on the trail. At the end it felt great to go under that archway with time to spare and a nice hammering on my body...

After that it was time to get the bike back in the box (I had just got it out 12h hour ago), deliver the timing chip and get my goodies, a nice ale and burger. There would still be a raffle, but with the midges hitting hard and my body saying it needed a rest, D. took us back to Newcastle, this time at a pace that gave the possibility to enjoy the scenery.

Overall opinion:
I'm going to try and be there next year. The atmosphere is quite nice, the route hard and fun. the event is worth it's high price.
